NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Rotary Club of New Albany recognized Kerry Stemler, dedicated community servant, business owner, and devoted Hoosier, as its honoree for the 26rth Annual Rotary Community Toast and Benefit Banquet earlier this year on November 1.

Each year the Rotary Club of New Albany chooses an individual from the community who has made important contributions to the local area and exemplifies the true spirit of the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self.”

As customary, a portion of the proceeds from the Rotary Toast are distributed to a nonprofit or charity as selected by that year’s honoree(s).  Mr. Stemler selected to have this portion of the proceeds benefit the Ivy Tech Foundation where the funds will be used for student scholarships.

Kerry joined the Rotary Club of New Albany recently to announce the final donation amount and to help distribute the funds to his chosen charity. During the club meeting, members of the Rotary Club of New Albany joined Kerry Stemler in presenting a check, totaling over $18,000, to Ivy Tech Chancellor Dr. Travis Haire and the Ivy Tech Foundation.

This year’s Rotary Toast Committee Chairperson, Marsha Abel was pleased with the community support for this year’s honoree. “We had tremendous support from the people in our community to make this event successful,” said Abel. “Kerry Stemler has consistently exhibited our Rotary Motto, ‘Service Above Self’ throughout his life and during his distinguished career working in this community. The Rotary Club of New Albany was honored to recognize such an outstanding individual who has made our community a much better place through his service and compassion."

The Rotary Club of New Albany was established in 1915 and enjoys a long history of serving its community through the meaningful acts of service of its members and through philanthropic giving. Rotary membership represents a cross-section of the New Albany's business and professional men and women.

The main objective of Rotary is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Locally, Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues. Rotary has focused its efforts in six areas: peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education/literacy, and economic /community development.
