Join us for a day of saving lives! Saturday, October 19th, will be our Sound the Alarm event in Southern Indiana. We will install smoke alarms and provide fire safety education to residents in high-risk neighborhoods in Clark and Floyd Counties. Help the Red Cross make homes safer in the Southern Indiana communities. Sound the Alarm…Save a Life!
Sound the Alarm is the American Red Cross’ signature event across the country. Homes fires are the #1 disaster nationally. Every day, 7 people die in home fires, and 60% of these deaths occur in properties with no smoke alarm present or working. Research shows having a working smoke alarm can double a person’s chance of surviving a home fire. In addition, having a preparedness plan in place, ensures family members know what to do if the unthinkable happens.
Since the campaign launched nationwide in 2014, more than 1 million smoke alarms have been installed nationally and 627 lives have been saved (178 under the age of 18). In our Kentuckiana region alone, we have saved 57 lives since the program began!
Saturday, October 19 Itinerary:
8:30 a.m. Arrive at American Commercial Barge Line,
1701 Utica Pike, Jeffersonville, IN (breakfast provided by ACBL)
9:00 a.m. Program/Remarks
9:15 a.m. Training
9:45 a.m. Distribute resources/teams transition to neighborhoods
10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Visit homes to install alarms and educate families
2:00 p.m. Return to ACBL (lunch provided by ACBL and team prizes handed out)
