Agency Mission Statement or Description: Equipping people to choose healthy relationships for a hopeful future. Year established: 2014 Counties/regions serviced: Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott, Jefferson (IN), Switzerland, Trimble and Carroll (KY) Focus areas: Education in Healthy Relationships, Puberty, Abuse Prevention, and Sexual Risk Avoidance for students of all ages. Impact in community: Our vision is to transform our communities by creating a culture that embraces sexual integrity and respect for life. We present a five-day comprehensive sexual risk avoidance program for middle and high school students, utilizing volunteers who use interactive demonstrations and object lessons for students to use critical thinking skills to arrive at the conclusion that risk elimination is the best possible choice for their future. Topics covered include goals and dreams, respect, setting boundaries, consequences of risky behavior, signs of dating abuse, and developing a plan to accomplish their goals. This program builds students’ self-esteem and self-worth, thereby instilling confidence to make healthy decisions. Most recently, we have launched a pilot elementary abuse prevention program called Solutions in the Greater Clark County Schools. This two-day program reaches every student in K-5 providing sexual abuse prevention education as mandated by new Indiana state education standards unveiled in 2018. All programming meets state education standards for the schools and is provided free of charge. Funding comes from grants and donations from individuals, businesses and churches. Volunteer Opportunities: Classroom Instructors, Administrative and Fundraising How 1si members can help your organization: We are seeking volunteers to present our program in the classrooms and donors to underwrite students. The current student cost rate is $20 per student. Additional information: We are in our seventh school year and are experiencing growth each year. The 2018-19 school year is expected to triple the number of students seen in a year to date.
