Personal Counseling Service, Inc. is a nonprofit outpatient mental health facility that was established in 1959, prior to the community mental health initiatives of the ‘60s. Over the past 57 years, PCS has adapted to the needs of the community and added programs and services including varied specialized counseling options, group work, and innovations in therapy such as play therapy and music therapy.
In our time in the community, the multi-disciplinary, professional staff has provided more than 600,000 hours in individual, couple, family and group counseling to more than 78,000 children, youths and adults. On an annual basis, 55 percent of our clients fall below the federal poverty guideline and 64 percent of our clients are children and youth. We do our best to see everyone regardless of ability to pay. This record of service ranks PCS as one of the region’s leading providers of mental health services.
We serve 13 counties in Southern Indiana: Crawford, Dubois, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jennings, Scott, Orange, Perry, Washington, Bartholomew and Clark. We serve four counties in Kentucky: Jefferson, Meade, Bullitt, and Oldham. Our mission is to offer assistance to all persons desiring to achieve wellness of body, mind and spirit.

Focus areas: Mental health counseling, music therapy, outreach
Impact in community:
Fifty-five percent of our clients are considered at or below the federal poverty guideline, while 64 percent are children/youth. In 2016 we saw over 3,222 individual clients, not including family members or those we saw through outreach programs.
Volunteer Opportunities:
We have opportunities for board membership, board committees, and an events committee. We also often have companies volunteer for the day and help us with landscaping or building maintenance.
