Agency Mission Statement or Description:
Mission: The mission of Communities In Schools (CIS) of Clark County is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

CIS of Clark County is a local affiliate of the national organization, Communities In Schools. CIS National is the largest dropout prevention organization in the United States, and the CIS Model has proven to be effective across broad spectrums of communities nationwide.

Focus areas: CIS of Clark County believes that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and provides a variety of services to at-risk Clark County students. These services include: in-school tutoring, vision screenings for all 1st graders, mentoring, reading intervention, in-school therapy and case management, basic needs items, before- and after-school care, after-school academic and behavioral interventions.

Impact in community: In the 2016-17 School Year, CIS of Clark County provided direct services to over 2,500 elementary and middle school students across 3 Clark County school districts.
• 89% of students who received tutoring from a CIS Resource Coordinator maintained or improved their report card grades over the course of the school year.
• 315 students received counseling from a licensed Centerstone therapist provided by CIS.
• Over 1,400 first grade students from all three Clark County School Systems received free vision screenings from volunteer optometrists.
• 425 students received academic assistance through CIS Homework Clubs and In-School tutoring.
• 105 students met individually each week with community volunteers to work on reading skills. The volunteers donated 1,940 hours of service to the 3,2,1 READ program and gave away nearly 2,000 brand new books to those students.
• 638 students participated in CIS of Clark County’s 21st Century Community Learning Center and Extended Day Learning before- and after-school programs.

Volunteer Opportunities: Project 3,2,1 READ matches a community volunteer with a struggling reader for a weekly one-on-one reading session during the school day. Volunteers are required to attend training and pass criminal background check.
