The mission and vision of Waterfront Botanical Gardens are as follows:
To develop experiences that promote appreciation and understanding of plants for a more harmonious and sustainable world.
To create a botanical garden and conservatory of extraordinary beauty that engages, enlightens, and inspires people about plants and nature.
Waterfront Botanical Gardens is focused on environmental education and research. This beautiful, natural environment will be designed to attract visitors and teach them about the importance of healthy air, healthy water, plants and their function in the natural system, and healthy soil. Educational programming for students in Kentucky and southern Indiana will be designed to align with school curriculum. In addition, adult programming will be focused on the environment, gardening, healthy foods, pollinators, clean water and more.
Construction on Phase 1 of the project has begun, and the Graeser Family Education Center will be open to the public in 2019, when it will begin attracting visitors from this region and beyond. The Education Center will serve as an event venue as well as an indoor classroom. As a tourist attraction, the gardens will bring people to this region and keep them here longer. In addition, this project will have an impact on the quality of life for those who live in this region, and increase the quality of educational opportunities offered to our children.
We offer many events throughout the year to our members and the community. In addition, we participate in fairs and festivals throughout the region. Volunteers are always needed for these fairs, for events and to work in our Founders’ Garden on Frankfort Ave. In 2019, we will need many more gardening volunteers to help in the new gardens that will be planted. To become a volunteer, go to www.waterfrontgardens.org/support/volunteer/.
We are raising money to complete Phase 1 of the project. Our Phase 1 goal is $10 mil., and we have raised $7 mil. We are interested in gaining new members, new volunteers, new donors and businesses who might be interested in sponsoring something and getting name recognition in the Waterfront Botanical Gardens.
