On October 15, 2018, the Muhammad Ali Center is partnering with Metro United Way and Generation W to introduce Generation WOW, a girls mentoring program, to Louisville. Created in Jacksonville, Generation WOW empowers girls through the positive and the possible by creating opportunities that help build future leaders by connecting them to the leaders of today. We would like to invite you to make a difference in the lives of Louisville’s teenage girls by becoming mentors.
A mentoring relationship is a visible and demonstrable statement in the belief that unlocking the potential of our youth, particularly young women, is to our collective betterment. The goal of Generation WOW Louisville is to provide a trusted and inspiring experience that forges relationships, inspires dreams, and delivers results that will change the world.
This fall, 400 of Louisville’s teenage girls and 200 of Louisville’s women leaders, will gather for Generation WOW Louisville, a high-energy, high-impact program consisting of speakers, art, music, and discussions, that focuses on self-esteem, life planning, social media, cultural bias, and mentorship. Since 2013, thousands of teen girls have gathered in Jacksonville for an inspiring program to learn about “The Positive and The Possible.” Through this dynamic partnership, the Muhammad Ali Center and Metro United Way, are bringing together Louisville’s women and girls to empower the next generation of our young leaders as they take on the world with confidence and conviction.
The signature activity of Generation WOW is the “Geraldine Mentor Walk,” a program founded by business leader Gerry Laybourne (Nickelodeon and Oxygen Media) and hosted in 40 countries. Mentors are paired with teen girls with a professed interest in the mentor’s “expertise” and the groups walk and talk for about 45 minutes. The conversation establishes the foundation of a relationship that will inspire the girls and give them an introduction to mentorship and networking.
Mentor Responsibilities:

Register through our online portal by August 15, 2018

Participate in a pre-event online training on mentorship

Attend the Generation WOW Louisville event on October 15, 2018 from 9am – 1pm at the Muhammad Ali Center

Follow up with each of your mentees a minimum of 2 times over the school year by email, phone, text, or in person
It is remarkable how contributing a few hours of one’s time can make such a big difference in a young woman’s life.
