Southern Indiana SHRM Receives Another Prestigious SHRM Award for Advancing the HR Profession

Clarksville, Indiana, May 24, 2018 — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded Southern Indiana SHRM (SISHRM) its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the Chapter’s accomplishments during 2017.  The award aligns individual chapters’ and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met and it recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that enhance the human resource profession.

“SHRM exists because of our great chapters like Southern Indiana SHRM which work tirelessly to help advance the important mission of the HR profession through initiatives that support our future, build inclusive organizations and focus on workplace readiness,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Recognizing you as a recipient of this prestigious award is just one way to show that SHRM supports you and that we are by your side step by step as we move Together Forward.”

According to Ed Carpenter, 2017 Chapter President of SISHRM: "Receiving this award at the Platinum level for the second year in a row is a great honor and no small accomplishment.  2017 was quite a year for the Chapter receiving the “Chapter of the Year” award from the Indiana State Council at the HR Indiana State Conference last August.  Then receiving a SHRM’s highest honor last November 2017, the Pinnacle Award - one of only nine given out annually by SHRM to 575 eligible affiliated chapters.  These awards are all formal recognition of the countless efforts of our board volunteers with the support of our membership, to provide benefits and programs that meet and exceed the needs of our members and our local HR community.”

“During 2017 our chapter had a theme “Celebrating the year of U, putting the U back in fUn”.  By focusing on this theme the chapter was able to offer training and initiatives around the importance of HR professionals throughout the year and we had a lot of fUn.  As a chapter, we’ve decided to continue using a theme for our 2018 programs and initiatives using a Star Trek theme “Going Where No Other SHRM Chapter Has Gone Before.” said Dr. Marilyn Faulkenburg, 2018 SISHRM Chapter President.
