Rise of the Rest to Stop at Maker13

JEFFERSONVILLE, IND. (May 7, 2018)  Maker13, the Jeffersonville makerspace community workshop, will welcome Steve Case and the Rise of the Rest tour on Friday, May 11th. The Rise of the Rest, a fund that invests catalytic capital in the most promising seed-stage companies located outside of Silicon Valley, New York City and Boston, was in Indianapolis last October, presenting to a sold-out audience at Union525. The visit to Maker13 in Jeffersonville will be the only Indiana stop on this leg of the Rise of the Rest tour.

Three of the eight startups competing for a $100,000 investment from the Rise of the Rest Seed Fund worked on their prototyping inside of Maker13. The Maker13 companies include: Inscope Medical, MailHaven, and Toggle Health. All 3 Jeffersonville companies have strong traction and promising futures.

“We are thrilled to host Rise of the Rest as a stop along their tour,” says John Riley, CEO of Maker13. “And even more excited that three of our members are featured in the Rise of the Rest pitch competition. Maker13 is proud to help facilitate success for companies and are elated to have these groups recognized for their innovation.”

Aside from the pitch competition, the event includes a fireside chat with AOL Co-founder and Revolution CEO and Chairman Steve Case, and Hillbilly Elegy Author and Managing Partner at Revolution's Rise of the Rest Seed fund J.D. Vance, who will discuss their shared vision and mission to invest in startups across America. The public can RSVP to attend the 4:00 p.m. event at the Speed Art Museum here. Immediately following the interview eight local startups will pitch their products/service to a group of judges including Case, Vance, and David Hall and Mary Grove of Revolution. The winner will receive the $100,000 investment following the event.

Maker13 is a makerspace community workshop for entrepreneurs, creators, and fabricators to have access to resources for creating and collaborating. Every staff person and member bring a diversity of backgrounds to work together to serve the community. Industry partners and equipment manufacturers support Maker13 as well.

Maker13, located at 629 Michigan Avenue, Jeffersonville, Ind., is hosting a pubic open house on Friday, May 11th, from 11am to 6pm and the public is invited.
