LifeSpan Resources and Baptist Health Floyd launches support program for caregivers

61 percent of caregivers report depression, high blood pressure or other health conditions

New Albany, IN—LifeSpan Resources and Baptist Health Floyd will begin a new outreach program January 22, 2018 to
provide family caregivers the support they need while caring for a loved one. The support group will meet for three weeks starting Monday, January 22, 2018 at 10:00 am until 11:30 at Baptist Health Cancer Center Floyd lower
level, 2110 Green Valley Rd, New Albany, IN.

The program features a new educational video series, CareAware: Help and Hope for Family Caregivers, produced by CICOA Aging & In-Home Solutions and funded by a grant from the State of Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration. The six-part video series features local experts and real-life family caregivers who provide insights and practical advice about caregiving.

Following the video presentation, participants will have the opportunity to share their personal experiences of caregiving and discuss how to put their learning into action.

Hoosiers provide more than 780 million hours of caregiving each year for loved ones, and the need to support family caregivers will grow as our population ages.

Caregiving can be both rewarding, but also stressful. The most common health changes reported are stress, anxiety, depression, social isolation, grief, weight gain, insomnia, high-blood pressure and diabetes.
