The Maker Mobile Hit The Road With Maker13 For The World Maker Faire

Local Indiana Entities Partnered to Bring “Built to Create” to the Empire State

September 27, 2017– This past weekend – Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24thNew York City played host to the World Maker Faire. And the Maker Mobile, with Maker13 behind the wheel, brought Indiana’s passion for community outreach and education to the festivities.

The Maker Mobile is a nonprofit mobile maker lab that gives students a hands-on experience with technology, manufacturing and production. It could be the spark that inspires students to pursue a career in a rapidly growing S.T.E.M. field. The 32-foot long trailer is outfitted with:

  • Computer, electronics and soldering workstations
  • Laser cutters and vinyl cutters
  • 3D Printers
  • A CNC router table

John Riley, a Samtec U.S.A. engineer and University of Louisville Speed School alum, is a founder of Maker13, the community workshop entrusted with presenting the Maker Mobile to the World Maker Faire’s more than 100,000 attendees. Riley was excited for the opportunity to share with the world the community-focused maker culture that Maker13 and its partners are nurturing in the region. When asked about the effect the Maker Mobile is having on students, Riley said, “Building off of initiatives started by the Blue Sky foundation and the Ogle foundation we have found a way to accelerate the access to tools and equipment that are used in the manufacturing industries. Kids don’t always get to see this type of stuff while in school.” The Maker Mobile is made possible by support from the BlueSky and Ogle Foundations of Southern Indiana.
