Skill UP! Indiana grant puts Advanced Manufacturing Equipment in Eight Regional High Schools

School has just started in Southern Indiana and students in eight high schools will have the most up-to-date advanced manufacturing training equipment on which to learn. Being installed this week, the Prosser Career Education Center and high schools in the Greater Clark, New Albany Floyd County, South Harrison and West Clark school systems received equipment, valued at $74,000 per school, as part of a $1,447,500 grant received by the Region 10 Skill Up Partners.

The equipment is a precursor course for any student wishing to earn an Advanced Manufacturing certification at Ivy Tech Community College. It can also be used as a practicum for students wishing to pursue a career in robotics.

1si Director of Talent Development Paul Holba said, “Approximately a hundred students will benefit by working with the latest training equipment annually. This preparation not only helps students decide on a career path but also prepares them for success in advanced manufacturing, should they choose to pursue it.”

In addition to the new equipment, the grant also provides employers with the opportunity to have their staff trained through the free Industrial Manufacturing Technician (IMT) Apprenticeship program and will help fund a Career and Job Fair taking place on September 20-21, 2017 at America Place in Jeffersonville, Ind.
