Agency Mission Statement or Description: The Center for Women and Families operates a Southern Indiana Campus Shelter in New Albany, Indiana, for women and their children who are victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. All of the services provided by The Center are free and confidential. Our direct services include 24/7 crisis response and emergency shelter, resources for achieving self-sufficiency, hospital advocacy, legal advocacy, and wrap-around services that provide assistance to victims and their families through every stage of their healing process. Our Southern Indiana Campus can provide shelter to 10 women and their children for up to 60 days. On average, we house approximately 200 women and children in Southern Indiana each year. Year established: The Center for Women and Families began as part of the YWCA in 1912. The Center incorporated as a private non-profit organization in 1989, after which we expanded our violence intervention services into nine counties across Kentucky and southern Indiana. We dedicated our Southern Indiana Campus Shelter in Floyd County, Indiana in 1999. Counties/regions serviced: Clark & Floyd Counties plus 7 counties in Kentucky Focus areas: Services for victims of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault Impact in community: We are the only organization providing services for victims of Domestic Violence and/or Sexual Assault in Clark and Floyd Counties.
