Agency Mission Statement or Description:

Blue River Services, Inc. is a private, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization founded in 1959 to provide education for children with disabilities after the public school systems deemed them uneducatable. Blue River has since expanded its services to meet the growing needs of children, youth, young adults and seniors of all backgrounds and ability in 32 Southern Indiana counties. Blue River strives to achieve its motto of “People Serving People” every day.

For the past 58 years, Blue River Services has been fulfilling its mission to assist people with disabilities realize maximum personal growth and development at home, work and in the community. Whenever possible, Blue River Services also meets the similar needs of the general community by providing services in non-segregated, community-based settings that emphasize the inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas of life.

Impact in community: Since 1959, Blue River Services, Inc. has been helping people with disabilities further their independence. In fiscal year 2016, Blue River Services, Inc. served more than 21,000 people in 32 Southern Indiana counties.

Economically, in 2016, the agency employed 243 people, had more than $4 million in payroll and spent $579,848 locally in Harrison County alone.

How 1si members can help your organization: Blue River Services offers community members the opportunity to grow and thrive in so many ways. From early childhood education, youth in crisis and babies with developmental delays, to group homes and work opportunities for adults with disabilities, and housing for low-income families, women fleeing domestic violence and seniors who need a safe, supportive environment to age in place, we encourage organizations and individuals to learn more about our services, support a program, or start an annual giving campaign. All donations support the mission of Blue River Services to help further the independence of people with disabilities, as well as the general public, through programs and services designed to meet the unique and individualized needs of each recipient.

Every donation is useful, appreciated and tax deductible.

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers are needed for many facility improvement and grounds beautification projects at agency properties. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, youth groups and other organizations looking for community service projects will find many opportunities to learn skills and values at Blue River Services. Blue River Services volunteers also may assist with fundraisers and special events, including county fairs and the annual Golf Scramble. Volunteer opportunities for special events will be posted on the agency website.
