New Albany, Ind. (February 20, 2017) – One Southern Indiana (1si), the chamber of commerce and lead economic development organization for Clark and Floyd counties, is pleased to announce the receipt of a $10,000 grant from the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County. Funding from the grant will support the Workforce Talent Development Initiative recently launched by 1si.

"We are proud to support the 1si Workforce Talent Development Initiative which is directly related to the foundation's mission to provide funding Floyd County economic development,” said Mark Seabrook, chairman of the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County. “This initiative will directly assist both large and small employers in the county as well as and Floyd County citizens who have the potential and desire to improve their employment situation. We anticipate great things out of the program and stand as a collaborative partner in its effort."

The Workforce Talent Development Initiative is an effort to coordinate a combination of programs, including training opportunities, in concert to address the growing shortfall in the labor force in the region. Headed by 1si Director of Talent Development and Skill UP! Partnership Paul Holba, this initiative includes management of the Skill UP! Indiana grant disbursement, acting as the community convening organization in the Greater Clark County Schools transition to the Ford Next Generation Learning model and various other efforts.

The initiative will be working closely with area partners such as Indiana University Southeast, Prosser Career Education Center, Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership, Ivy Tech Community College-Sellersburg, the Metro Manufacturing Alliance, WorkOne and employers throughout Floyd County and the region to help develop career pathways and address training needs. As a regional project, 1si also will work with Where Opportunity Knox and Greater Louisville Inc. on their talent attraction initiative and the Intern to Earn program.

1si President and CEO Wendy Dant Chesser said, “To fully realize the potential for growth in Southern Indiana, a sustained effort must be made to ensure Southern Indiana employers have a healthy, well-trained labor pool from which to draw, now and in the future. We appreciate the Horseshoe Foundation of Southern Indiana’s support in this important endeavor as we work to be the voice of business for this initiative.”
