St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities has been referred to as “Southern Indiana’s best kept secret.” That is no longer the case. The agency, which began with a maternity home in 1989, has grown over the years to meet the needs of the community and now offers eight social services programs including Adoption Bridges of Kentuckiana, Marie’s Ministry Community Distribution Program, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Floyd and Washington Counties, Mental Health Counseling, Supported Living Program for individuals with developmental delays, a Maternity Home, Transitional Shelter for parenting and pregnant women and Affordable Supportive Housing for families facing homelessness.

St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities has grown and expanded programs in recent years to meet the changing needs of those who are served. Here are a few highlights. The housing capacity of the three residential programs has increased over 300% in the last eight years. Marie’s Ministry expanded to a new facility in November 2015 and served more than 800 families by distributing more than $114,000 worth of essential items. The adoption program merged in 2014 to create Adoption Bridges of Kentuckiana and went from placing 2-3 children per year in loving families to averaging nearly 20 placements annually. St. Elizabeth’s began providing school counseling for two area schools in 2015 and feedback from parents and teachers indicate the services have already made a positive impact for many students.

St. Elizabeth Catholic Charities recently earned reaccreditation from the Council on Accreditation by demonstrating the implementation of best practice standards in the field of human services. The agency was also selected as the 2016 Non-Profit of the Year by One Southern Indiana.
