FireKing International LLC Considers New Distribution Center

in Grantline Industrial Park West in New Albany, Ind.

Project Would Include 50 New Positions Over Five Years

NEW ALBANY, IND. (October 20, 2016) –The New Albany City Council will be asked to consider two tax abatement requests tonight.  The first request for tax abatement will be for an investment of $6.5 million for a proposed building at a new North Reas Lane location, which would span 75,000-112,500 square feet. This will be the first building in the new Grantline Industrial Park West. This park was designated as Indiana Site Certified (ISC) Gold by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) for the City of New Albany in February of this year.  The proposed building will be developed by The Carlisle Family LLC.

The first tenant for the proposed building, FireKing International LLC, will represent the evening’s second request for tax abatement.  FireKing International LLC will ask for consideration of a personal property tax abatement for its $2.2 million investment in manufacturing and IT equipment. The new location will be a distribution center for FireKing International LLC, expanding the company’s New Albany presence.  In addition to the investment, the company has plans to add 50 new positions over the next 5 years.

“FireKing International LLC is excited about the possibility of expanding our business in New Albany. We are looking forward to partnering with the city and the state in this effort,” said Mark Essig, chief executive officer. “We are also very thankful for the individual efforts of Kathleen Crowley from One Southern Indiana and Trevor Lane of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation for all of their hard work in preparing for this project. The positive business environment in Indiana is deeply appreciated as we look to expand our footprint and bring more jobs to the area.”

Van G. Carlisle, the managing member of The Carlisle Family LLC, said, “We are delighted to add to our investments in New Albany and so pleased to have FireKing as our anchor tenant in this new, multi-tenant building.”

With assistance from One Southern Indiana (1si), the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered FireKing International LLC up to $225,000 in conditional Economic Development for a Growing Economy (“EDGE”) tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. IEDC also offered a grant of up to $45,000 from the Skills Enhancement Fund for training the company’s eligible, Indiana resident employees.

“FireKing is a true Indiana success story,” said Indiana Governor Mike Pence. “After launching in Indiana 65 years ago, FireKing has experienced tremendous growth and now sells its Hoosier-built products around the world. Through that growth, FireKing has continued to invest and grow in Indiana, helping contribute to the 156,800 new jobs added in the state since 2013.”

“We look forward to welcoming FireKing International LLC as the first business to locate in the Grantline Industrial Park West development,” said New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan. “The newly opened 40-acre site, located only 1.75 miles from Interstate 265, is the perfect home for a company with a long history of succeeding in New Albany, and we stand ready to help in any way we can.”

Wendy Dant Chesser, president and CEO of 1si, commented, “We are excited by the possibility of further expansion of FireKing International LLC in Southern Indiana. FireKing has long been a manufacturing mainstay in New Albany and the consideration being given to expand here underscores Southern Indiana’s advantages with regards to location, incentives and business services. We congratulate FireKing International LLC on their past successes and hope to be of service to them as they continue to grow in the future.”
