CIS of Clark County is a local affiliate of the national organization, Communities In Schools. CIS National is the largest dropout prevention organization in the United States, and the CIS Model has proven to be effective across broad spectrums of communities nationwide. Year established: 2002 Counties/regions serviced: Clark Focus areas: CIS of Clark County believes that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and provides a variety of services to at-risk Clark County students. These services include: in-school tutoring, vision screenings for all 1st graders, mentoring, reading intervention, in-school therapy and case management, basic needs items, before- and after-school care, after-school academic and behavioral interventions. Impact in community: CIS of Clark County programs and service touch the lives of more than 4,500 students and their families each year. CIS of Clark County works directly with Clarksville, Greater Clark, and West Clark school districts to provide student and family support services, both in- and out-of-school. Programs and services include: • Resource Coordinators in the schools • Therapists and Family Support Specialists (partnership with Centerstone Mental Health) • 3,2,1 READ: reading and mentoring program • Camp Kindergarten • Vision Screening for all 1st Graders • Dictionaries for all 3rd Graders • School supplies and basic needs items • Service Learning activities • In-School Tutoring • 21st Century Community Learning Centers – afterschool academic intervention and enrichment • Extended Day Learning – Academically-focused child care, before- and after-school • Summer Academic Support Volunteer Opportunities: Project 3,2,1 READ matches a community volunteer with a struggling reader for a weekly one-on-one reading session.
